- All exam candidates must be a member of one of the regional associations supporting the A.F.T.C./A.M.F.C. Atlantic Farrier Association, Ontario Farrier Association, Quebec Farrier Association or Western Canadian Farrier Association.
- For first and second level apprentices you must be working under a recognized training farrier
- All exam levels include a portfolio of work, showing proficiency at various skills. Before a candidate is accepted for any part of the exam the portfolio must be electronically submitted in advance for evaluation to the registrar
- Candidates will have two years to complete all parts of the exam successfully. After two years has passed it will be necessary to retake all parts
- Anyone who has already passed the A.F.A. C.J.F. exam or the W.C.F. Diploma can purchase the Approved Journeyman Farrier of Canada (A.J.F.C.) after submitting the portfolio
